Our dedicated team specializes in Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ which was developed by the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) to promote landscape designs that conserve water, protect the environment, and support native wildlife.
Why Choose Florida-Friendly Landscaping™?
At Ecovision, we are proud to offer landscape services that are fully certified by the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) Program. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our adherence to the nine principles that guide landscape design and maintenance under the FFL Program. By integrating these practices, we ensure that our landscapes are not only beautiful but also environmentally sustainable. Homeowners who choose Ecovision for their landscaping needs can enjoy landscapes that require less water, fertilizer, and pesticides, leading to cost savings and a reduced environmental impact. With our FFL-certified services, we strive to create outdoor spaces that enhance the natural beauty of the surroundings while promoting conservation and sustainability for future generations.
The 9 Principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™:
Right Plant, Right Place: Selecting plants suited to your specific site conditions, such as sunlight, soil type, and moisture levels, to minimize the need for water, pesticides, and fertilizer.
Water Efficiently: Using efficient irrigation methods, such as drip irrigation or micro-irrigation, and scheduling watering based on plant needs and weather conditions to conserve water and prevent runoff.
Fertilize Appropriately: Applying fertilizers sparingly and at the right time to minimize nutrient runoff into water bodies and reduce the risk of pollution.
Mulch: Applying mulch around plants to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature, and improve soil health and fertility.
Attract Wildlife: Creating habitats for native wildlife by incorporating native plants, providing food sources, shelter, and water features, and avoiding the use of pesticides harmful to beneficial insects and animals.
Manage Yard Pests Responsibly: Implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to monitor and control pests using least-toxic methods, such as biological controls and cultural practices, while minimizing the use of chemical pesticides.
Recycle: Recycling yard waste, such as grass clippings, leaves, and branches, through composting or mulching to reduce waste sent to landfills and improve soil health.
Reduce Stormwater Runoff: Designing landscapes to capture and retain rainwater, using techniques like rain gardens, swales, and permeable paving, to reduce erosion, prevent flooding, and filter pollutants before reaching water bodies.
Protect the Waterfront: Creating vegetative buffers along water bodies, such as lakes, rivers, and streams, to prevent erosion, filter pollutants, and provide habitat for wildlife, while minimizing the use of fertilizers and pesticides near waterways.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) is not about adhering to a singular aesthetic or style. It's about adapting to the unique conditions of each community and landscape. By following the 9 Principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™, individuals can create vibrant and attractive landscapes tailored to their specific goals while conserving resources such as water, fertilizer, and pesticides. Matching the right plant with the right place and providing appropriate care at the right time are key aspects of FFL, allowing for flexibility in design while promoting environmental sustainability.
-
Florida statute 720.3075 states that HOA rules “may not prohibit or be enforced so as to prohibit any property owner from implementing Florida-Friendly Landscaping, as defined in s. 373.185.” *
While an HOA cannot outright forbid the application of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ principles, proposed changes to the landscape may still need to adhere to specific aesthetic criteria. Ecovision will work with you and any HOA review boards to obtain approval for your new Florida-Friendly landscape design.
-
If you have a newly constructed landscape installed by Ecovision Landscaping, and you would like to apply for official FFL recognition, Ecovision would be happy to assist you through that process. Approved Florida-Friendly landscapes receive a yard sign to display and a certificate for recognition which is valid for 24 months.
